Ozempic, a medication approved by the FDA and EMA for treating type 2 diabetes, is increasingly utilized for weight management through off-label prescriptions. Users have reported significant weight reduction and improved satiety. Beyond diabetes and obesity management, the medication is being linked to other health outcomes. One individual Areli Ruiz, a nurse from California, reported successful pregnancies conceiving three children in two years after using the GLP-1 medication to address infertility and reduce bodily inflammation. Medical experts note that such medications may assist fertility by regulating testosterone levels, encouraging ovulation, and reducing inflammation. However, some users have reported adverse side effects. Chilean journalist Monserrat Álvarez shared her experience of severe emotional and physical symptoms after using the drug for weight management. Álvarez described a decline in mood, stating, ‘De partida me vino como depre’ (From the start, I felt depressed), and noted frequent urges to cry, intense fatigue, and significant muscular and bone pain. Nutritionist Óscar Barrera noted that the drastic reduction in appetite caused by such medications can lead to insufficient nutritional intake, which may result in depressive symptoms and physical weakness.
