The documentary film ‘Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning’ is scheduled for a worldwide limited theatrical release starting October 28. Produced by Mercury Studios and distributed by Trafalgar Releasing, the film documents the historic farewell performance held on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham, England. The event marked a significant reunion as the original Black Sabbath lineup—Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward—performed together for the first time in over 20 years. The performance took place just 17 days before the passing of Ozzy Osbourne at age 76 on July 22, 2025. Directed by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, the film utilizes Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound and includes tributes from artists such as Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, and Halestorm. The film, running approximately two and a half hours, features all-star segments curated by musical director Tom Morello and includes behind-the-scenes footage and reflections from host Jason Momoa. Sharon Osbourne has provided further insight into the final performance, noting that despite medical advice regarding his emphysema, Ozzy insisted on performing, stating, ‘That is what I want.’ She also addressed controversy regarding a major rock band that allegedly requested over £800,000 in expenses for the charity event, a demand she rejected. Following a Los Angeles premiere, new details have emerged regarding the event's impact, noting it raised approximately £11 million for charity. Sharon Osbourne also revealed that the true severity of Ozzy’s declining health had been kept private from his children and bandmates to protect them. While Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine expressed respect for the family, he noted his band did not participate due to scheduling. Mercury Studios has announced that the film will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, CD, vinyl, and digital formats on December 11, 2026. A deluxe box ~~set, containing three Blu-rays, two CDs, three vinyl records, and a 72-page book,~~ set is scheduled for release on April 23, 2027. Regarding Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy, Sharon Osbourne has confirmed plans for the return of Ozzfest, with performances scheduled for the UK, Los Angeles, and Mexico City.
