Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the visit, Sharif is expected to meet with US President Donald Trump on September 23 during a reception dinner. In his upcoming address to the General Assembly on September 25, the Prime Minister is anticipated to discuss the Kashmir dispute, the Indus Waters Treaty, Middle East peace efforts, counterterrorism, and the trilateral security arrangement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. In preparation for the assembly, Sharif expressed “complete solidarity” with Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi attacks on Saudi civilian and economic infrastructure. In a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sharif condemned the strikes, noting they threaten regional security and global energy supplies. These attacks included strikes on southern Saudi cities and a drone attack on a vital oil pipeline. Sharif’s upcoming UN address is also expected to address the dispute over the Indus Waters Treaty following India’s suspension of the agreement.
