Pakistan economic and export development initiatives

The Pakistani government has initiated several measures to drive economic growth through export expansion and financial support for key sectors. Initially, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs3 billion risk pool to improve export credit insurance access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This initiative involves the Export Development Fund (EDF) and the Export-Import Bank of Pakistan, with the EDF undergoing restructuring to be led by private-sector experts.

Following these developments, the administration expanded its focus to include the agricultural sector and social welfare. The Prime Minister directed officials to seek new global markets for various agricultural products, such as rice, meat, and mangoes, while emphasizing value addition within the supply chain.

Furthermore, the government is prioritizing the ‘Access to Finance Plan 2026-28’, which includes providing easy loans for farmers and financial support for SMEs. Parallel efforts are being made through the ‘Prime Minister Apna Ghar Program’ to provide affordable housing, with tens of thousands of applications already approved and funds being disbursed.
