Pakistan higher education development and partnerships

Overview

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has initiated several programs to support academic development and international cooperation.

In late September 2026, the HEC announced research awards for the 2026-27 period, targeting excellence in categories such as Best Researcher, Best Young Researcher, and Best Publication. Concurrently, the Sindh Higher Education Commission opened applications for the Sindh Research Support Program, offering grants of up to Rs. 5 million for projects focusing on areas like climate change, food security, and artificial intelligence.

By early October 2026, efforts shifted toward international collaboration. The HEC and the British Council held discussions in Islamabad to strengthen Transnational Education (TNE) and expand partnerships between Pakistani and UK higher education institutions. The dialogue focused on advancing research linkages, scholarship opportunities, and academic exchanges.
