The San Martino San Rocco Contrada won the 2026 Palio di Asti, their first victory in the event in 14 years. The race, which included several falls and two false starts, was won by Dino Pes Pes, also known as ‘Velluto’, riding Excalibur. San Pietro and Tanaro finished in second and third place, respectively. The event featured a historical parade with over one thousand participants in medieval costumes. Preparations for the race involved several changes, including the Montechiaro committee replacing jockey Silvano Mulas with Filippo Belloni and the veterinary commission excluding the horse Ferro Nero from the competition. During the race in Piazza Alfieri, San Lazzaro held an early lead, but momentum shifted following several falls, including those of riders Carlo Sanna and Federico Arri. These incidents allowed Dino Pes to find an opening and surge ahead to claim the Drappo.
