Panama healthcare infrastructure development and repair

Overview

Panama is undergoing significant healthcare infrastructure developments and repairs. Initially, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) approved US$120 million to modernize and expand four facilities, including Panama Norte Hospital and the Curundú Health Center, to increase bed capacity and surgical availability.

Following an earthquake on October 9, the focus expanded to include emergency reconstruction. The Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced over $30 million for a new Hospital del Oriente Chiricano in San Félix to replace damaged sections. Minsa has identified damage in 118 health installations across eight provinces and one comarca, with total estimated repair costs reaching $53 million.
