Panama tourism and sport‑fishing development

In late July 2026 Panama’s water‑resource authority began a three‑year pilot to test fish‑concentrating devices for sport and sport‑tourism fishing, establishing exclusion zones, catch‑and‑release rules and an angler data platform. Simultaneously, the authority and the tourism agency rolled out a three‑year strategic plan to position the country as a premium destination for international sport‑fishing competitions, targeting foreign investment, specialised hotel infrastructure and jobs in coastal communities.

A few days later the National Assembly created a Commission of Economy and Finance to review a tourism‑incentive law and other growth legislation. The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced a partnership with BID Invest to mobilise up to US$1 billion of private‑sector financing for projects in construction, tourism, logistics, energy, water, housing and digital infrastructure. The effort aims to broaden credit access for micro, small and medium enterprises, attract investment that creates employment and complies with environmental and social standards, reinforcing the earlier sport‑fishing and tourism initiatives.
