Road rehabilitation projects on Quito’s Panamericana Norte have entered a new phase of construction. Having reached 50% completion, the works transitioned into a focus on a 1.15-kilometer stretch of central lanes in the south-to-north direction, spanning from the Carapungo interchange to García Moreno. By mid-October, the intervention expanded to include the area near the Calderón Central entrance, specifically targeting the three central lanes up to the 9 de Agosto street overpass. The project involves milling old pavement, stabilizing the road structure, and applying new asphalt layers. Starting October 12, 2026, a scheduled 20-day rehabilitation phase will focus on the three central lanes in the Calderón area. To manage the approximately 50,000 vehicles using the artery daily, authorities have implemented contraflow systems and temporary lane reconfigurations. While lateral lanes remain open to support local commercial activity and public transport, specific closures and diversions have been established, such as the full closure of the Llano Grande exit toward the Panamericana Norte in the southbound direction. Drivers are advised to use the José María Becerra U-turn as an alternative route.
