In late June 2026, James Gray’s crime drama Paper Tiger, starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, was announced for a November theatrical release by Neon after its Cannes debut and an 84% Rotten Tomatoes rating. The distribution plan targets the awards-season window, with a limited U.S. release on 13 November followed by a nationwide expansion on 20 November. By mid-July, the film secured the opening-night slot at the 64th New York Film Festival, with its North American premiere set for 25 September 2026 at Alice Tully Hall. This selection places the film on the festival’s Main Slate, highlighting its artistic merit. On 28 July, it was confirmed as the opening feature of the 50th São Paulo International Film Festival, with the ceremony scheduled for 14 October at Sala São Paulo. Brazilian distributor Diamond Films will handle the national release in Brazil. Director James Gray is expected to visit Brazil to attend the opening ceremony and the film’s Brazilian premiere, which is titled ‘Tigre de Papel’. The production involved Brazilian company RT Features in partnership with Leone Film Group and Keep Head Productions. In August, NEON released the first teaser trailer for the film. Set in 1986 Queens, New York, the footage introduces the central characters: Irwin Pearl (Miles Teller), Gary Pearl (Adam Driver), and Hester Pearl (Scarlett Johansson). The trailer depicts the brothers' entanglement in a dangerous Russian mafiya scheme that threatens their family bonds and their pursuit of the American Dream. The film notably received a ten-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, and the trailer marks the first collaboration between Driver and Johansson since ‘Marriage Story’.
