Papua Highlands healthcare service expansion
Overview
The Papua Highlands Provincial Government is expanding healthcare services by contracting 61 medical personnel, including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, for deployment across eight regencies. This initiative, funded by approximately Rp1.4 billion from special autonomy funds, specifically targets community health centers in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas.
To complement the increase in personnel, the Ministry of Health is working to improve healthcare quality by facilitating partnerships between local regional general hospitals and major Indonesian hospitals. This effort aims to provide local treatment for serious conditions like cancer, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Additionally, eight regional general hospitals in the province are undergoing accreditation upgrades from Class D to Class C to enable more comprehensive specialist medical services.
