Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe in collaboration with CD Projekt Red and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The project is set within the dystopian world of Night City, following the commercial success of the franchise, which has sold over 40 million copies of the base game and 15 million copies of the Phantom Liberty expansion. CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has clarified the creative direction, stating that the production will not be a direct adaptation of the video game's plot. Instead, the film will tell an original story set within the same universe, a strategy similar to the animated series ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ which introduced new characters rather than retelling the game's narrative involving V and Johnny Silverhand. Nowakowski noted the production aims to avoid a “one-to-one translation” of the game's narrative. The film is being developed in partnership with Paramount Pictures and Skydance. This new collaboration follows the expiration of a previous agreement with Anonymous Content. While the project aims to expand the franchise's reach, reach and evolve Cyberpunk into a global multimedia brand, specific details regarding the cast, director, screenwriter, and plot remain undisclosed.
