In September 2026, two separate incidents occurred in India involving passengers being dragged by moving trains. On September 8, a passenger at the Agra Cantt Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh was dragged approximately 50 metres between a moving Sabarmati Express and a platform. Responders from the Government Railway Police’s Quick Response Team and other passengers intervened to pull the man to safety; he reportedly sustained no injuries. Later in the month, a 69-year-old passenger named Mohammed Elias was dragged approximately 50 metres at the Guindy station in Chennai on the Villupuram–Chennai Beach line. After Elias slipped into the gap between the train and the platform while attempting to board, passengers bystanders and an RPF Constable Narayan Singh from the Mambalam Railway Protection Force worked to halt the train and rescue him. Elias sustained a minor leg injury to his left leg and was discharged after receiving treatment. In response to the incident, Indian railway police issued warnings against attempting to board or exit moving trains.
