Spanish cyclist Paula Blasi, currently ranked second in the UCI standings, entered the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada, with the goal of securing medals in both the individual time trial and the road race. During the championship period, it was reported that Blasi reached an agreement to join the Movistar cycling team for the next three seasons. The deal 23-year-old, a winner of La Vuelta Femenina, is set to join Movistar on a contract running through 2029, departing UAE Team L’IMAD following the conclusion of the 2026 season. To secure the transfer, Movistar reportedly involved resolving paid a 100,000 euro buyout €100,000 release clause with her current team, to UAE Team Emirates. L’IMAD, as Blasi was originally under contract through 2027. The deal also involved reaching an “amicable agreement” with Lidl-Trek, with whom Blasi had a prior pre-agreement. Negotiations for the move were managed by agent Alex Carera, with initial contact having occurred earlier in the year during Carera. Reports suggest Blasi will earn an annual salary of approximately €500,000.
