The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has detailed its 2027 European Tour calendar, which will feature fifteen tournaments across ten countries. Key expansions include the inaugural European Open in Salzburg, Austria, a three-day televised event with a £750,000 prize pool, and the first European Tour event in Liévin, France. Other scheduled changes involve increasing the European Championship field to 48 players with a £1 million prize pool and expanding the Players Championship Finals to 128 players. The tour will also move to Gent, Belgium, while maintaining the Slovak Darts Open in Bratislava. PDC Europe President Werner von Moltke stated that the tour has grown significantly in terms of “level, attendance, and geography,” describing the 2027 season as a “major milestone for the organization.” Following these announcements, discussions have emerged regarding the financial difficulties faced by international players. Specifically, the high costs of travel and accommodation for players from regions such as Australia have been highlighted, leading to calls from professionals to increase prize money in early tournament rounds to better support non-European competitors. Regarding the expansion into France, the newly announced Darts Grand Prix de France is scheduled to take place in Liévin from March 19 to March 21, 2027. French player Thibault Tricole described the event as a “long-held dream” for the local community, noting that the sport in France has recovered from a period of uncertainty a decade ago when player numbers were declining.
