Renovations and modernization efforts at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) in Greece are proceeding through different channels. In early August 2026, the Greek Supreme Audit Court annulled a €24.8 million tender for an energy-upgrade project due to procedural omissions. A new tender for this work was scheduled for 10 September 2026. While this specific energy project faced delays and legal challenges from a citizens' group, other modernization activities continued. Simultaneously, Olympiacos BC has been undertaking extensive structural renovations funded by an estimated 15 million euros from Giorgos and Panagiotis Angelopoulos. These works include demolishing the existing arena floor and installing a new basketball court at a depth three meters lower than the current level to improve spectator proximity. Additionally, the club's first-team training facility and academy courts were expected to be operational by mid-September 2026. As of late August 2026, Olympiacos BC President George Angelopoulos inspected the ongoing works, which include removing existing seating to accommodate new suites. While the first team has already begun using Hall 3 for daily training, concerns have emerged regarding the legal status of the project. Despite a parliamentary amendment being passed over a year ago, the official concession contract for the stadium has not yet been signed by the state. In a further development, SEF management announced a long-term, 40-year development plan intended to transform the venue into one of Europe’s most modern stadiums. This strategy, which includes energy upgrades, enhanced security, and the revitalization of inactive spaces, is scheduled to be presented at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair between 5 and 13 September 2026.
