Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro as a primary target for the January transfer window to bolster the team’s right flank. While Porro recently signed a contract extension with Tottenham through 2031, reports suggest he may be interested in a move back to Spain, potentially influenced by Tottenham’s poor start to the season. Specifically, his interest could diminish if Tottenham remains at the bottom of the Premier League table and fails to compete in European competitions. Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown noted that while Porro is currently happy, a move back to Spain could become a “real possibility” if Barcelona shows interest. For Barcelona, acquiring the 27-year-old could provide tactical flexibility, particularly if defensive changes occur, such as the possible departure of Jules Kounde. However, Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly hesitant to make major investments in the fullback position unless a current player departs first. Recent reports indicate that Porro is “increasingly convinced” that his tenure in North London is nearing an end as he seeks a return to La Liga. This has sparked a potential transfer battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid. While Barcelona remains Porro’s preferred destination due to an attacking profile that aligns with Flick’s tactics, a move may depend on the Catalan club freeing up funds through the potential departures of players like Jules Kounde or Alejandro Balde. Real Madrid is also monitoring the situation as a potential alternative for the right-back position. As interest from Spanish clubs intensifies, Tottenham has reportedly set a £75 million asking price for the defender. ~~This high valuation follows Porro’s strong performances with the Spanish national team and serves as a financial safeguard for the club, despite their intention to retain him.~~
