Penn State women’s volleyball opened Big Ten conference play with a 3-1 victory over Michigan at the Crisler Center. Kennedy Martin led the offensive effort with 18 kills, helping the Nittany Lions move to a 9-2 overall record. Following that win, the No. 15 ranked Penn State team faced UCLA in a five-set match at Pauley Pavilion. Despite holding a 2-1 set lead, Penn State lost the match as UCLA secured a comeback victory with set scores of 25-20, 15-25, 17-25, 26-24, and 15-12. Kennedy Martin recorded 25 kills and Whitney Lauenstein added 19 in the loss. Most recently, the No. 16 Penn State team secured an upset against No. 10 Oregon with a 3-1 victory during their annual Dig Pink match. Kennedy Martin led the team again with 25 kills, supported by Whitney Lauenstein’s 15 kills and Gabrielle Nichols’ nine blocks. Setter Alexis Stucky contributed 45 assists to the win, which ended Oregon’s seven-game winning streak. Building on that momentum, the Nittany Lions defeated No. 18 Indiana 3-1 on October 25. Kennedy Martin recorded 21 kills with a .514 hitting percentage, while Whitney Lauenstein added 14 kills and Alexis Stucky provided 45 assists. The victory improved Penn State’s overall record to 15-5 and their conference record to 7-3.
