New performing arts productions involving circus and theater are being introduced in Brazil. In São Paulo, Circo Piorô is set to premiere ‘A Banda do Circo Piorô’ in September, utilizing music and acrobatics to examine the financial and administrative pressures on independent artists. Simultaneously, Coletivo Noroest is debuting ‘Manifesto de Concreto’ at Teatro Paulo Eiró, a production that combines dance and circus to reflect on the historical ‘Greve dos Queixadas’ labor strike. Cultural programming has expanded to include diverse regional events. In São Paulo, the Identidade Oculta group is presenting ‘KUN: CURA MAR DE DENTRO’ in Grajaú, using the Billings Reservoir as a stage to explore environmental and community themes. In Vinhedo, the Municipal Theater is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a free program of music, dance, and theater. In Bahia, the performance ‘Fọ̀ Ìlù’ is touring Santo Amaro and Salvador, blending poetry with percussion to celebrate Afro-Brazilian traditions. The comedy ‘As Meninas da Pesada – Recriando Histórias,’ which addresses aging and social inclusion, is also being presented in Camaçari. Other regional activities include the ‘Trem de Minas’ circus show in Araraquara, a foreign language and Libras festival in a municipal school network, and a civic parade in Governador Valadares for Brazilian Independence Day. In Manaus, the ‘#SouManaus Passo a Paço 2026’ festival is scheduled for September 4 to 13 in the Historic Center. The event has expanded to ten days and will feature over 150 musical acts, including Ana Castela, IZA, and Gloria Groove. To fund the festival, the municipal government has secured private sponsorships, allowing for a R$ 10 million reduction in public funding which will be redirected to assist families affected by drought in the Amazonas region.
