Medical experts and local authorities in Brazil are addressing the complexities of perinatal health, focusing on the prevention of premature births and the reduction of maternal mortality. In Mato Grosso do Sul, health data indicates a gap in the quality of prenatal care. While many women experiencing maternal mortality had attended multiple consultations, obstetrician Vanessa Chagas noted that risks are often not correctly classified and delays occur when transferring high-risk patients to specialized care. Efforts to address the psychological impact of perinatal loss have expanded through education and cultural expression. In Sorocaba, the City Hall, via the Women’s Secretariat (Semul), launched the 1st Maternal Grief Awareness Week. Week at the Centro de Referência em Educação (CRE). This initiative features free lectures on humanized care, the reduction of perinatal mortality through prenatal attention, and effective communication regarding obstetric losses, such as fetal death or anomalies. The event aims to strengthen support networks for mothers, utilizing public services like ‘Projeto Pérolas’ to provide spaces for listening and reconstruction. The week is supported by various organizations, including Projeto Girassol, Ofebas, and Biolabor, bringing together health professionals and students to foster dialogue on maternal mental health. Simultaneously, in Boa Vista, the ‘Mesmo que breve’ exhibition is being held at the Amazonian Center for Frontiers (CAF) of the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR). Utilizing photography, music, and audiovisual media, the exhibition honors the memories of deceased infants and supports families through the ‘Filhos Invisíveis’ project. These efforts aim to foster dialogue regarding maternal mental health and the necessity of public policies for bereaved families.
