In early July 2026, gunmen opened fire in Lima and Tumbes, killing and wounding several people in separate attacks. Later in the month, on July 29, two additional shooting incidents were reported. In La Unión, a civilian was shot in the foot during an alleged robbery after resisting armed assailants. In Tacna, a police sub‑officer suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back when his service weapon discharged accidentally. Both incidents prompted investigations by local homicide, forensic and public ministry public‑ministry authorities. On July 30, an 18‑year‑old male was wounded by four gunshots near a school in Callao. Police are probing a possible retaliatory motive.
