The Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Education, has implemented significant changes to the National Program of Scholarships and Educational Credit (Pronabec). Initially, new regulations were approved to tighten academic requirements for scholarship recipients. Under these rules, students must maintain a position within the top third of their class and meet specific credit enrollment and weighted average standards. The decree also outlines strict conditions for the revocation of benefits, such as failing the same course twice or failing two different courses during the scholarship period. A transitional regime has been established to protect students who were awarded scholarships before the decree took effect. Following these regulatory updates, Pronabec has launched several major initiatives. An extraordinary call for the 2026 Bicentennial Generation Scholarship targets Peruvian professionals with limited economic resources, offering 20 scholarships (17 for master’s and 3 for doctoral degrees) at international universities. The application period for this call runs from October 30 to November 13, 2026, with benefits covering tuition, research, and living expenses starting January 1, 2027. Regarding the 2027 Beca 18 and Special Scholarships program, Pronabec announced 6,000 vacancies for high-performing students facing poverty, extreme poverty, or vulnerability. ~~The~~ Looking ahead to 2027, the program ~~funds undergraduate studies at eligible institutions, with additional support for food, housing,~~ aims to grant a total of 20,000 scholarships. The National Preselection Exam remains scheduled for November 22.
