Peruvian beauty pageant developments

Overview

Recent developments in the Peruvian beauty pageant sector include the crowning of Susana León y Velásquez de Gannon as Señora Perú España 2026 during a gala in Torrevieja, Spain. The event, organized by the Asociación Cultural Perú Íntegra, celebrated cultural ties between Peru and Spain. León y Velásquez de Gannon is expected to travel to Lima in January 2027 for national activities.

Separately, Luciana Fuster, the 2023 Miss Grand International winner, has been officially appointed as the National Director of Miss Grand Peru for 2027, succeeding Jessica Newton. The announcement was made via official Miss Grand International social media channels. Fuster expressed that she was moved to tears of joy and intends to lead with discipline and respect for the country.

Following the appointment, Fuster addressed social media criticism regarding her past conduct during preliminary ceremonies, specifically her decision to assist fellow contestant Zuliet Seminario with a dress, stating her actions were “driven by empathy.”

The leadership transition has drawn public commentary, including questions from media personality Melissa Paredes regarding Jessica Newton’s reaction to the change. Additionally, social media users noted that Cassandra Sanchez De Lamadrid, the daughter of Jessica Newton, stopped following Fuster on Instagram following the announcement. Fuster has also announced plans to begin a selection process for regional directors.
