Research in Germany demonstrated that a simple household washing method can remove virtually all pesticide residues from the skins of conventionally grown produce, such as apples. The study found residues on 79 apple samples, while organic apples showed none, and noted that peeling eliminates residues but also discards nutrients. A subsequent report from the United States identified strawberries, grapes and apples as the fruits most frequently carrying pesticide residues. Although most samples remained within legal safety limits, experts reiterated the importance of thorough washing, especially for fruits with thin skins or edible peels. Both sources stress that the nutritional benefits of these fruits outweigh the limited risks when residues stay within regulatory thresholds. No further developments related to pesticide residues on fruit have been reported since the last update.
