The Pet Shop Boys prepared for the release of ‘A Man from the Future’, a concept album exploring the life and legacy of mathematician and codebreaker Alan Turing. Prior to the official release, the recording was scheduled for a world premiere via two BBC global radio broadcasts on October 4, featuring interviews with the duo and Turing biographer Andrew Hodges. Following the broadcasts, the album was officially released via Parlophone Records. Records on October 9, 2026. The project project, described as an eight-part electronic opera, combines electronic music, orchestral arrangements, and spoken word narration by actress Juliet Stevenson, adapted from Andrew Hodges’ biography ‘Alan Turing: The Enigma’. The work follows Turing’s life chronologically, from his mathematical interests and role in deciphering the Enigma machine to his pioneering work in artificial intelligence and his prosecution for homosexuality. The final track incorporates a recording of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s 2009 apology and the 2013 posthumous royal pardon. Released on October 9, 2026, this version of the project is as a revised studio recording of a work originally presented in 2014 at the BBC Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Produced alongside Sven Helbig, Hall, the eight-track album was produced alongside Sven Helbig. It utilizes synthesizers and strings performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet, with additional contributions from the Manchester Grammar School choir. The narrative structure includes specific tracks such as ‘The Enigma’, ‘The Trial’, and ‘Only in his death’. The final track incorporates a recording of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s 2009 apology and the 2013 posthumous royal pardon.
