Peugeot has introduced the Turbo 100, a new third-generation 1,199 cc three-cylinder gasoline engine designed for the 208 and 2008 models. The engine features 70% newly designed components by value, including a new timing chain, turbocharger, injection system, pistons, and cylinder block. To improve performance and efficiency, the engine utilizes a variable geometry turbocharger for better low-end response, a 350 bar high-pressure direct injection system, and variable valve timing to reduce internal friction. The engine produces 101 hp (CV) at 5,500 rpm and 205 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm. When paired with the Peugeot 2008, the engine reports a combined WLTP fuel consumption of 5.7 liters per 100 km. This development occurs as Peugeot transitions the 208 line toward an all-electric future. Starting in 2027, the next generation of the 208 is expected to be available exclusively with electric powertrains utilizing the STLA One platform. To meet market demand during this shift, Peugeot may offer two different generations simultaneously, maintaining the current internal combustion engine version alongside the new electric model. As part of this electrification, Peugeot has revived its iconic GTi badge with the e-208 GTi, a fully electric performance hatchback developed by Peugeot Sport. The vehicle features a 281 hp (207 kW) electric motor and a 54 kW gross battery capacity, providing a WLTP range of 352 to 375 km. This strategic shift toward retro-inspired design is part of a broader trend among European automakers to leverage brand heritage against rising Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. Recent developments include the official launch of the E-208 GTi, which aims to blend retro styling inspired by the 205 GTi with modern electric propulsion. Developed by Peugeot Sport and Peugeot Design, the model includes performance enhancements such as a lowered chassis, widened tracks, and a mechanical limited-slip differential.
