During the NBA preseason, Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe delivered a strong individual performance in a loss to the Boston Celtics, recording 19 points, four assists, and four steals. Following the preseason, Edgecombe expressed that representing the Bahamas in the Olympics would be a greater goal for him than winning an NBA championship. As the regular season progressed, Edgecombe returned to full practice after missing a game against the Detroit Pistons due to an abdominal contusion. His return to the lineup, alongside Joel Embiid, provided a boost to the 76ers' rotation. At that stage, Edgecombe was averaging 12.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over his first three games. As the 76ers prepared to face the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the team held a 3-1 record following a loss to the Detroit Pistons. Edgecombe was expected to return to the lineup while managing his abdominal contusion.
