Phoebe Bridgers has released her third studio album, ‘Lost Weekend’. The project, her first full-length release in six years, is noted for its cinematic qualities and a balance between melancholic and hopeful themes, distinguishing it from her previous works, ‘Stranger in the Alps’ and ‘Punisher’. Produced with Jack Antonoff and Alex G, the album features a diverse range of sounds, transitioning between anthemic tracks and moody, reflective songs. Key tracks include the opener ‘The Outside’, which utilizes vocoder-layered vocals to explore grief and dissociation; the ballad ‘The Governor’s Waltz’; and ‘Bobby’, noted for its intense guitar strumming. Other standout tracks include ‘As Above’, ‘Haunted’, ‘Kill Me’, and the title track ‘Lost Weekend’. The lyrics also include references to her partner, comedian Bo Burnham. Musically, the album incorporates significant experimentation, moving away from Bridgers’ signature breathy vocal style toward a more powerful delivery. The production utilizes unconventional sounds, such as heartbeats and mechanical computer beeps, alongside orchestral, electronic, and 80s-inspired synth elements. The project features a blend of folk, ambient, dream pop, and psychedelic influences. Collaborators include longtime associates Ethan Gruska, Christian Lee Hudson, Marshall Vore, and producer Tony Berg, as well as Jack Antonoff, Maya Hawke, and Bo Burnham. Ahead of the release, Bridgers saw significant commercial success, including selling out Madison Square Garden on short notice. The lead single, ‘Lost Boys’, served as a precursor to the album. Additionally, Bridgers sold notice and selling 500,000 tickets for an upcoming international and U.S. arena tour within hours of availability.
