Physical assaults on Serbian folk singers

Overview

Recent reports have highlighted instances of physical violence against folk singers in Serbia during or after musical performances.

In late September, singer Era Ojdanić was involved in an altercation at a fair in Šabac, where a witness reported a man punched him in the stomach following a period of provocation. Ojdanić noted that this followed a traumatic 2017 incident in Tresije where he was assaulted by five individuals and robbed.

In October, singer Denial Ahmetović reported being physically assaulted and robbed immediately after a performance. Ahmetović alleged that an individual struck him from behind, causing potential injury to his knee and resulting in the theft of his performance earnings. He identified the alleged perpetrator as the owner of the venue and indicated that legal proceedings would follow.
