Pietracatella ricin murders: evidence seizure and focus on 6 potential motive identified

The investigation into the December 2025 ricin poisoning deaths of Antonella Di Ielsi and her 15-year-old daughter, Sara Di Vita, has expanded to include the seizure of 131 items of evidence. These items, recovered from the family apartment and the office of Gianni Di Vita, include medical liquids, needles, cannulas, bread residues, a vacuum cleaner filter, and a plastic bag labeled ‘Monique’. Authorities are currently focusing on a circle of six individuals. While no formal suspects have been charged, investigators are scrutinizing the family and close associates—including a teacher, a laboratory technician, and a local priest—by examining seized phones, computers, and digital contacts. More than 200 testimonies have been collected, revealing various contradictions and silences. A central question remains whether the poisoning was targeted at Antonella, potentially making Sara an accidental victim through shared food or objects. While medical records showed high bilirubin levels in the victims and Gianni Di Vita prior to the deaths, recent tests on the father and daughter showed no evidence of toxin exposure. Prosecutor Elvira Antonelli noted that experts have not yet definitively resolved the mystery. Investigators are awaiting technical findings from the Robert Koch Institut in Germany to identify the specific vector used to deliver the toxin. Recent developments suggest investigators may be nearing a breakthrough, with reports indicating they have identified a ‘passionate motive’ for the double homicide. Following meetings between Prosecutor Antonelli and the Campobasso Mobile Squad, efforts have focused on reconstructing the social dynamics and private connections of the Di Vita family. Questioning has expanded to include Gianni Di Vita’s cousins, Laura and Loredana, and a friend named Monia. Additionally, a nurse who is a family friend was summoned for questioning. The nurse had administered intravenous fluids to the victims at their home on December 26, following their hospital discharge.
