Pirelli has unveiled its 53rd edition of ‘The Cal’ calendar in New Delhi, marking the first time the project has been shot entirely in India. The 2027 edition edition, titled ‘India’, aims to capture the country’s cultural complexity and the transition between tradition and modernity. The project features a collaboration between three photographers: Sølve Sundsbø, the late Raghu Rai, and Avani Rai. Sundsbø’s work focuses on portraits of nine prominent Indian women in Rajasthan, including figures such as Aditi Rao Hydari, Freida Pinto, Anoushka Shankar, Rupi Kaur, and Padma Lakshmi. Following the passing of master photographer Raghu Rai in April 2026, his daughter Avani Rai completed his vision by integrating his archival photographs with contemporary scenes in the streets of Delhi and Mumbai, bridging Mumbai. By photographing modern life alongside her father’s legacy rather than using studio settings, she has created a visual dialogue that bridges historical memory with present-day life.
