PKP Intercity is implementing extensive upgrades to Poland’s railway services, focusing on catering, high-speed rolling stock, and technical infrastructure. Regarding passenger amenities, the operator and its catering provider, Wars, plan to introduce new restaurant wagons produced by FPS H. Cegielski. The first units are expected to enter service in the first half of 2027, with a goal of expanding the fleet to 17 specialized gastronomic wagons by the end of that year. The company also intends to phase out shared-class carriages that combine first and second-class compartments by 2027. The company has also advanced the procurement of Poland’s first high-speed trains. Four consortia—comprising PESA Bydgoszcz and Hitachi Rail STS, Alstom Polska, Siemens Mobility, and Talgo—have been selected as finalists for a project involving 20 electric high-speed train sets, with an option for 35 additional units. Final contractor selection is expected in June 2027. Further fleet modernization includes a 6.9 billion PLN order for 42 Alstom Coradia Max double-decker trains. These silver-colored sets will feature quiet zones, family areas, and vending machines, with production starting in January and service expected between 2029 and 2032. These trains are capable of reaching 200 km/h and are compatible with High-Speed Rail networks. As of late 2026, the operator has begun expanding service frequency, including doubling daily connections between Bielsko-Biała and Kraków starting December 13. Additionally, PKP Intercity is piloting a five-month satellite internet program on Pendolino trains in cooperation with ACO Solutions. This initiative uses low earth orbit (LEO) constellations to address “white spots” where mobile signals are weak. If successful, the company plans to install satellite receivers in Pendolino fleets during maintenance periods between 2028 and 2029. To support these advancements, PKP Intercity is executing a massive technical infrastructure investment program for the 2025–2030 period, valued at approximately 27.8 billion PLN (€6.4 billion). ~~Additionally, the operator is modernizing its digital infrastructure by replacing the aging KURS 90 ticket sales system, with full capacity targeted for 2027.~~
