Overview

An explosion and fire occurred at the PMV Minera salt plant in Jáltipan, Veracruz, originating from a brine well containing diesel. The initial incident resulted in at least three deaths and several injuries, prompting the evacuation of approximately 238 residents from nearby communities such as Chalco and Anáhuac.

Emergency responders, including the Mexican Navy, National Guard, and Pemex, utilized a controlled combustion strategy to manage approximately 80,000 liters of diesel stored in tanks at the site.

By September 17, the death toll rose to four following the discovery of a 61-year-old worker, Jesús Cadenas Ramos, inside a brine well. Civil Protection stated the fire had been brought under control and was in a venting phase, with investigations into the root cause of the accident ongoing.
