The Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) has initiated its internal candidate selection process for upcoming municipal, provincial, and general elections. As part During the 50th Alderdi Eguna celebration in Foronda, Esteban announced that the internal selection process for candidates would officially begin on October 19. He framed these upcoming contests as a single electoral cycle and a ‘first line of this process, defense’ for Basque interests. Furthermore, Esteban issued a warning to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, stating that if the government fails to present the State Budgets, the PNV will demand the end of the current legislature and the calling of general elections. Regarding local leadership, the party has named Jon Urresti, president of Fundación Vital, as its candidate for the Mayoralty of Gasteiz for the May 2027 municipal elections.
