The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Bank, the Nintendo 3DS cloud storage service active since 2013, will officially end its service on February 25, 2027. The shutdown will terminate the ability to transfer Pokémon from the Bank to Pokémon HOME, the ecosystem for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android users. To prevent permanent data loss, players are urged to migrate their digital collections to Pokémon HOME before the deadline. While new downloads of the Pokémon Bank application are no longer available, existing users can still perform transfers using a transfer key generated within Pokémon HOME. To facilitate these transfers, a Pokémon HOME Premium subscription may be required, as the free version of HOME has a limited storage capacity of 30 Pokémon. Once the service ends, the direct link between the 3DS-era storage and current platforms will be severed. The discontinuation poses challenges for collectors, as certain rare species, forms, and event-exclusive Pokémon may become effectively unobtainable through official digital channels once the service ends. As a transitional measure, Pokémon HOME is expected to gain compatibility with Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen in October 2026, allowing players to complete certain Pokédex entries and receive rewards such as the Mythical Pokémon Celebi.
