Polish cultural awards, reading events and Miss Supranational 2026
From early May through late June 2026 Poland hosted a series of cultural recognitions, reading‑promotion events and the announcement of the 17th Miss Supranational contest in New Sącz on 31 July. Awards ranged from the Oskar Kolberg folk‑art prize to the Wisława Szymborska translation award, while libraries organized outdoor “Reading on the Meadow” sessions, “Night in the Library” programmes and themed summer series. In July the pageant entered its final phase. Venezuelan delegate Silvia Maestre arrived on 13 July, wearing a black ribbon in memory of the victims of the 24 June earthquakes and using the platform to draw attention to Venezuela’s hardships. The competition concluded on 31 July at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sącz. 2025 Miss Supranational winner Brazil’s Eduarda Braum of Brazil returned to crown her successor, with hosts Fezile Mkhize Braum, the 2025 title‑holder, was crowned at the gala, which was broadcast by Polsat and hosted by Ida Nowakowska and Dr Fezile Mkhize. Poland’s representative, Oliwia Mikulska, advanced to the semifinals and received the Miss Supranational Europe 2026 title, while the Philippines’ Maria Katrina Llegado also reached the semifinals. The event featured rehearsals, national‑costume presentations and musical performances by Polish artists Alicja Szemplińska, Blanka and Oktavvia. Sixty‑seven candidates from Albania to Zambia competed. The ongoing combination of literary, scientific and cultural initiatives, together with the high‑profile international beauty contest, underscores Poland’s broad agenda of cultural diplomacy and public engagement in the summer of 2026.
