Poland transport disruptions persist in August 2026

Throughout August ~~2026~~ 2026, Poland’s road and ~~public‑transport~~ public-transport network continued to be strained by a wave of simultaneous construction projects and ~~special‑event~~ special-event closures. The Okrąg Street modernisation in Warsaw began on 11 August, introducing new parking bays, ~~speed‑reducing~~ speed-reducing bumps and green strips, while the Armed Forces Day preparations forced a full shutdown of Wisłostrada and temporary bans on several bridges on 8–9 August. Emergency work on railway crossing line 449 between Rembertów and Wesoła required an overnight closure on 6–7 August. ~~Public‑transport~~ Public-transport services were repeatedly adjusted: Banino’s Z02 bus line returned to Lipowa street on 10 August with upgraded pavement and pedestrian crossings; Kraków’s tram lines 8, 22 and 50 were suspended on 8 August and replaced by temporary bus 722; Konstantynów Łódzki’s tram 43 remained replaced by bus Z43 until 29 August; and Szczecin’s ~~Andersena‑Miodowa~~ Andersena-Miodowa intersection stayed under ~~traffic‑control~~ traffic-control until 8 August because of underground utility work. Additional works reported in the new ~~snapshot~~ snapshots expanded the picture: the Kabaty ~~metro‑station~~ metro-station area in Warsaw reopened to traffic after resurfacing; Górna Street in Rybna was fully closed to cars from 11–14 August; Brzeziny, Żywiec and Łódź introduced lane reductions and 30 km/h speed limits; and further detours and altered bus routes were implemented in Katowice, Gniezno, Lublin and other towns. Preparations for the Polish Armed Forces Day parade on 15 August in Warsaw have also contributed to the disruption. The celebrations, themed "Polska SAFE — Bezpieczna Polska," involve rehearsals with aircraft and ground vehicles, including F-35 "Husarz" jets and Patriot missile systems. These activities, alongside ongoing infrastructure projects, are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions and detours in central Warsaw. Authorities continue to urge drivers to follow ~~signage, use alternative routes~~ signage and plan journeys ahead as ~~the~~ disruptions are expected to ease gradually through November.
