The Polish Ministry of Health has initiated the 2026/2027 COVID-19 vaccination campaign, with supply distribution for individuals aged 12 and older beginning on September 11. Pediatric versions of the Spikevax XFG vaccine for children under 12 are scheduled to become available through primary healthcare clinics (POZ) starting September 29. For children aged 5 to 11, a single dose is required, while children aged 6 months to 4 years who have not been previously vaccinated will receive two 0.25 ml doses at least 28 days apart. A third dose may be authorized by a doctor for children with severe immunodeficiency. These vaccinations are free of charge and do not require an e-referral. Parents or guardians can register directly at primary healthcare clinics, where the vaccine can be administered during the same visit as other immunizations, such as the flu shot, without a required waiting period. Vaccination is particularly recommended for children and adolescents with comorbidities, including diabetes, obesity, and chronic lung, kidney, or cardiovascular diseases. As the autumn and winter approach, season progresses, health authorities are emphasizing influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations to prevent serious complications. For the influenza season, vaccines including Vaxigrip, Influvac, and Efluelda are available. The National Health Fund (NFZ) provides 100 percent reimbursement for children up to 18, seniors 65 and older, and pregnant or postpartum women. Adults aged 18 to 64 are eligible for 50 percent reimbursement with a prescription. Vaccinations can be administered in primary healthcare facilities or at selected pharmacies, where qualified pharmacists can perform qualification assessments and administer pharmacies. By early October, medical professionals reported that the vaccines. infectious disease season arrived earlier than usual, with rising cases of influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 confirmed through combo testing. While experts note that October remains an effective time for vaccination, concerns have emerged regarding healthcare access. Some parents have reported difficulties securing timely appointments for sick children at local clinics, occasionally forcing families to seek emergency hospital care due to a lack of available slots in primary care facilities.
