The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has been aggressively expanding its gold reserves to enhance financial security and diversify official assets. In August 2026, the bank purchased approximately 7.8 tons of gold, bringing total holdings to nearly 648 tons. By September, the NBP reportedly increased its monthly purchase volume to approximately 25.3 tonnes, its highest in 19 months. This surge has brought estimated reserves to roughly 693.8 tonnes, placing Poland 10th globally and nearing the 700-tonne target approved by the NBP board in January 2026. Since the start of 2026, the country has added over 123 tonnes to its stockpile. As of the end of September 2026, the NBP held approximately 673 tons of gold, following an increase of 24.9 tons during that month. NBP President Adam Glapiński noted that maintaining large reserves strengthens economic credibility and provides stability, particularly in light of the conflict on Poland’s eastern border. The bank continues to work toward its 700-ton goal.
