Following a 0-0 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Poland national football team prepared for a critical UEFA Nations League Group B4 match against Romania on October 3, 2026. Both teams faced high stakes as they struggled to avoid relegation from Division B and sought to improve their seeding for Euro 2028 qualifying. Poland entered the fixture seeking a victory after a five-game winless streak, with significant pressure on head coach Jan Urban. On October 5, 2026, Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a 1-0 victory over Poland in a match held at Bilino Polje in Zenica. The decisive moment occurred in the 84th minute when Ivan Basic converted a penalty following a VAR review of a foul by Jan Bednarek on Lukic. This victory marks Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first home win in the current cycle and keeps them undefeated. Coach Sergej Barbarez praised the team’s character and tactical flexibility, specifically noting the performances of Ivan Basic and Armin Gigović. The result has significantly impacted the Group B4 standings. Sweden leads the group with 10 points following a 1-0 win against Romania. Bosnia and Herzegovina sits in second place with 8 points, while Poland remains in third with 4 points. Romania occupies the bottom of the table with no points. On October 12, 2026, the UEFA Appeals Body issued five disciplinary sanctions against the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the match in Zenica. The sanctions address the use of pyrotechnics, laser pointers, and the throwing of objects. The association was also cited for delaying the match start and for “racist and/or discriminatory behavior” during the encounter. Poland’s loss complicates their path to second place, as they now require two wins and specific results from other matches to overtake Bosnia and Herzegovina. ~~Poland’s upcoming schedule includes a match against Romania on November 14 and a home game against Sweden on November 17.~~
