The 15th edition of ‘Narodowe Czytanie’ (National Reading) concluded on September 5, 2026, celebrating Adam Mickiewicz’s drama ‘Dziady’. The initiative, which promotes Polish literary classics, saw participation across Poland and in more than 40 countries, involving over 6,000 locations. The event was inaugurated in Warsaw at Adam Mickiewicz Square by President Karol Nawrocki and First Lady Marta Nawrocka. During the opening, President Nawrocki emphasized that literature acts as a “vessel for national identity,” while the First Lady highlighted the work’s capacity to connect generations. Following the official inauguration, regional and educational activities continued. In Grodziec, actor Jerzy Zelnik was scheduled to meet with residents on September 16 at the Municipal Public Library to discuss his career as part of the campaign. In Starachowice, students at ZSZ nr 1 analyzed fragments of the play’s second part, using film segments of spirit summoning to aid their understanding of the text’s mystical atmosphere. In Nielepice, students at Bohaterów Westerplatte Primary School staged a theatrical performance of the work, utilizing costumes, candlelight, smoke, and folk music to recreate the setting of a mysterious chapel. In Poddębice, the County Public Library hosted a reading where eighth-grade students from Primary School No. 1 performed selected passages. The event, attended by local officials and educators, aimed to engage the younger generation with significant works of Polish literature.
