Swedish electric-vehicle manufacturer Polestar has announced the upcoming commercial launch of a sport-utility-vehicle version of the Polestar 4, scheduled for 2 September. The new model will utilize a 400-volt architecture and a 102 kWh battery, with drivetrain options including a single rear-motor (272 hp) or a dual-motor (544 hp) configuration. Production is set to take place at Renault’s plant in Busan, South Korea. In related branding efforts, Polestar showcased the Polestar 4 high-performance SUV coupé during a partial solar eclipse event in the United Kingdom on 12 August. The event, held at the Bedruthan National Trust car park, featured the Kernow Astronomers, who used specialized telescopes to show attendees the eclipse. Polestar highlighted the vehicle’s celestial-themed interior ambient lighting and cosmic design elements, noting that occupants can select different color palettes and planetary facts via the car’s screen. Expanding its lineup, Polestar has introduced the Polestar 5, a flagship performance GT coupé-limousine intended to compete with luxury models such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Lucid Air. Featuring a minimalist Scandinavian design, the Polestar 5 lacks a traditional rear window, opting instead for an extended panoramic roof and a digital rearview mirror. The Polestar 5 Dual Motor, which can produce up to 884 horsepower, starts at 118,600 euros in Germany. The interior is primarily a four-seater configuration, offering high-end features such as individually adjustable seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Recent leaks regarding the Polestar 4 SUV suggest the model will feature a flatter roofline and a more squared-off tailgate compared to the coupé version. Unlike the coupé, which uses a rear-mounted camera and digital rearview mirror, the SUV is expected to include a traditional rear window.
