In late October 2026, law enforcement in Catania reported two distinct incidents involving recovered property. First, a citizen turned in a package of old postal savings bonds found near Piazza Teatro Massimo. Originally worth six million lire, the bonds have accrued interest to a value of approximately 20,000 euros. Police are attempting to locate the owner, who has reportedly lived in London for more than ten years. Separately, officers from the Librino Public Security Commissariat discovered a storage facility in the Villaggio Sant’Agata containing stolen merchandise valued at roughly 30,000 euros. The items, which included scooters, bicycles, electronics, and trekking equipment, were uncovered during an investigation into thefts from parked vehicles. Police successfully returned much of the merchandise to a tourist after tracing items stolen from a van in central Catania. The recovery of these items, which included professional bicycles, computers, and headphones, required assistance from firefighters to enter a locked garage. During the same period, law enforcement conducted several anti-drug operations in the region. In Catania, an 18-year-old was arrested after police found cocaine hidden in a kitchen drawer. In Belpasso, a 27-year-old woman was reported for allegedly possessing cocaine hidden in an eyeglass case. Additionally, in Villabate, a 20-year-old man was arrested after attempting to throw hashish and cannabis crumble from a window during a police inspection.
