Police crackdown on gangs and drugs in Comilla and Comilla, Chandpur and
Police in Comilla and neighboring districts in Bangladesh have continued large-scale operations to combat juvenile gangs and narcotics trafficking. In a recent coordinated raid involving 18 police stations and detective branches in Comilla, authorities detained 252 individuals in a single night. This action follows previous phases of intensified enforcement in the district, which have seen thousands of individuals detained, with many released to their families after verification while others face legal action. Operations have also expanded into Chandpur. In a 24-hour anti-drug campaign, police arrested 20 individuals and seized 51 pieces of Yaba and 293 grams of cannabis. Additionally, 70 individuals suspected of being members of juvenile gangs were detained across the Faridganj, Matlab, and Hajiganj police stations. Following verification, these minors were released into the custody of their guardians. Recent enforcement in Chandpur saw the arrest of 11 individuals for possession of 198 yaba tablets and the detention of 76 people suspected of involvement with ‘teen gangs’ across the Chandpur Sadar, Hajiganj, and Kachua police stations. Many of these minors were released to their guardians after verification. In the Khulna region, special operations conducted between October 6 and October 13 resulted in the arrest of 255 individuals. Seizures included 688 pieces of yaba, approximately 5.9 kilograms of cannabis, 20 liters of local liquor, a pistol, a magazine, and two rounds of ammunition. These raids also targeted suspects linked to murder and robbery cases, alongside traffic enforcement drives involving 1,785 motorcycles. In the Bandarban district, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted two separate operations near the Gumdhum border. During one raid, BGB personnel arrested two FDMN members in possession of 10,000 Burmese yaba tablets. A subsequent operation near the border resulted in the recovery of an additional 190,000 abandoned yaba tablets. The BGB confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated following these seizures.
