Overview

Multiple police pursuits involving stolen or unauthorized vehicles have occurred in New South Wales.

In late September, a pursuit lasting over 20 kilometers began in Mount Saint Thomas when officers attempted to stop an allegedly stolen vehicle. The chase ended in Albion Park after the vehicle crashed into a parked car. Two women were arrested; the driver faced charges including speeding and driving without owner permission.

On October 25, 2026, a high-speed pursuit occurred in Bathurst after officers from the Chifley Police District observed a black SUV with occupants whose faces were concealed. The chase began on Rankin Street and continued through several suburbs. During the pursuit, passengers reportedly threw projectiles at police vehicles, and the SUV allegedly rammed a marked police sedan on Cowpastures Road in Abercrombie.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle veered onto the Mid-Western Highway and into dense bushland. Three teenagers fled on foot before being apprehended. A 16-year-old boy, identified as the driver, was charged with several offenses, including dangerous police pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle, and possession of a prohibited drug; he was refused bail. Two other 16-year-olds, a boy and a girl, were also arrested. No injuries were reported.

In Newcastle, a 41-year-old man and a teenager were arrested after a stolen Mercedes was allegedly used to crash into a police vehicle at a shopping centre.
