Polish cultural heritage funding and preservation
Overview
Polish architectural and conservation organizations have called upon the national government to establish a permanent legislative mechanism for funding cultural heritage protection. The National Council of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland and the Association of Monument Conservators proposed that a portion of tourism revenues be earmarked for the conservation and revitalization of historical sites, citing Croatia’s ‘spomenička renta’ system as a potential model.
At the local level, the municipality of Nowe Miasteczko has continued its program to support historic monument renovations, allocating 200,000 PLN in subsidies for the current year. The region also hosted the provincial inauguration of the European Heritage Days under the theme ‘Future of the Past. Heritage in Danger.’
