Overview

In Poland, the National Health Fund (NFZ) has expanded the list of medical specialists that patients can access without a referral from a primary care physician. This update allows direct access to psychiatrists, gynecologists and obstetricians, oncologists, venereologists, dentists, psychologists, optometrists, and sports medicine doctors.

This follows a previous expansion in late 2025. Other specific groups, such as individuals with tuberculosis or HIV, war invalids, and certain military personnel, also maintain direct access rights. The Ministry of Health has stated it does not plan further expansions to the list for 2027, noting that referrals remain a necessary part of the healthcare system.
