In late July 2026 2026, a nationwide survey revealed that more than half of Polish homeowners were handling their most recent renovations themselves or with family, driven by labour rates that had roughly doubled over five years. Most kept total spending modest – half spent no more than 15 000 15,000 zł, with only a small share exceeding 200 000 200,000 zł – reflecting a desire to limit outsourced work to technically demanding stages. A follow‑up follow-up report on 24 July highlighted emotional decision‑making decision-making behind costly blunders. One couple bought a large hydro‑massage hydro-massage bathtub only to discover it would not fit through their doorway; after installing new doors they were forced to hoist the tub through a window with a crane, incurring a costly and impractical solution. In a separate case a wife secretly took out a 15 000‑zł 15,000-zł loan while her husband was abroad, claiming the funds came from savings and a discount, and completed a full kitchen remodel without his knowledge. A further survey on 29 July showed that 59.3 % 59.3% of working Poles were planning or already carrying out DIY projects during their vacation, turning holiday time into a peak sales period for the domestic DIY market. Rising labour costs – up 9.3‑10 % 9.3-10% in Q2 2025 and a further 5.4‑6.6 % 5.4-6.6% in Q2 2026 – together with a 33 % 33% increase in material prices since 2021‑2022 2021-2022 are prompting homeowners to take on work themselves. The study broke down activity: 37.4 % 37.4% limit themselves to minor repairs, 9.1 % 9.1% combine small tasks with larger projects, and 12.8 % 12.8% undertake substantial remodels such as kitchens, bathrooms, flooring or whole‑house whole-house renovations. Savings from DIY work can reach 5‑11 5-11 thousand PLN, depending on scope and local rates.
