Polish Justice Ministry actions on hate‑related issues
Entities: 54‑year‑old cyber‑threat suspect · 54‑year‑old Polish man · Kołaczyce · Bydgoszcz‑North District Prosecutor's Office · National Prosecutor's Office of Poland
Overview
Since late July 2026, Poland’s Justice Ministry has intensified its response to hate‑related conduct. On 24 July it opened disciplinary proceedings against three judges over the “hater affair,” a campaign that illegally collected and published personal data of other judges. Five days later the ministry announced a new hate‑crime unit within the National Prosecutor’s Office, staffed by more than 350 prosecutors, judges and police officers and already referring over 250 cases to courts. In the same period the broader “Hellfire” operation led to the detention of a school director on child‑pornography charges. On 29 July the Central Office for Counteracting Cybercrime (CBZC) detained a 54‑year‑old man in the Kuyavian‑Pomeranian region after he posted online calls to kill police officers and their families. Police seized three mobile phones and a modem with a SIM card. The suspect, who had a prior conviction for a similar incitement offence, was charged with public incitement to commit a crime, punishable by up to three years in prison.
Also on 29 July, while the Justice Ministry announced the creation of a special team of more than 100 prosecutors dedicated to hate‑motivated offences, police across Poland reported a wave of unrelated criminal incidents. Officers detained dozens of suspects in theft, drug and traffic offences: a 32‑year‑old smashed car windows in Ruda Śląska, a 44‑year‑old driver fled a collision in Wolin and was found with narcotics, a 33‑year‑old in Kościerzyna was arrested after a noise complaint uncovered enough marijuana and methamphetamine for over 1 200 doses, and a 53‑year‑old in Kraków was taken into custody for bank‑card fraud. Additional arrests involved alcohol‑related driving, bicycle theft, animal‑cruelty and a fatal crash caused by a driver under the influence of narcotics.
