Polish police safety outreach expands to school preparations

With the start of the new school year in September 2026, Polish police initiatives have pivoted toward student safety through ~~both~~ technological partnerships and increased enforcement. Throughout September, the police launched the ‘Slow Down Near Schools’ (Zwalniaj przy szkołach) campaign in collaboration with the Yanosik application and Screen Network. This initiative utilizes Yanosik’s voice alerts and LED screens to warn drivers approaching educational facilities. However, the partnership has drawn criticism from the activist group Miasto Jest Nasze, which characterized the collaboration as a contradiction because Yanosik is frequently used by drivers to avoid police inspections. Law enforcement has also intensified roadside inspections to manage increased traffic near schools. In Gniezno, four drivers were removed from the road for driving under the influence near school zones, while in Gdańsk, authorities issued fines to parents after discovering minors operating electric scooters without proper authorization. Educational efforts have expanded through the ‘Safe Road to School’ campaign, ~~coordinated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Education.
